Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan rescue workers and volunteers were called at 1.30pm after reports of a lightning strike near the Tree Tunnel area, but by the time they arrived the victim had already been moved to Suanyaysuk resort and cafe in Huai Yai. Rescuers found Si Tu Mao lying on a wooden bed in a blue long-sleeved shirt and black trousers, his clothes marked by burns and tears. Initial information suggested his heart had stopped before emergency crews reached him.
Ekphong Thongpiam, 55, owner of Suanyaysuk, said the teenager was not an employee but had been visiting friends who worked there for the past two or three days. Rain had begun to fall before the incident, and the youth headed towards the Tree Tunnel area, apparently to look for fish. Ekphong said he received a call reporting the teenager lying motionless near the tunnel, and he and his garden workers brought him back to the centre and contacted rescuers, but he had already died.

Huai Yai police are investigating further, with officers initially attributing the death to lightning given the rain and thunderstorms at the time and the abundance of tall trees in the area.
